Sliding into his middle age
Year by year
He sees the life that remains for him
With an overarching sense of weariness
When he lays on his bed at night
And thinks about the life thats remains for him
He cant find anything worthy of ‘living’
His mother died a year ago
Father died long ago
Wife’s in pain and suffers from a disease
His girls although they live with him
Still are miles apart
That he cant reach out to them
Even if he wants to
Hes been told his heart’s weak
That he must remain cautiously
In the morning he goes to earn
Works away his hours
And longs when he would be freed of this service
A service which tires him to the bones
He used to enjoy good food, good life once
But now he cant eat that much
Looking at the clock, he wonders if
We get old just to feel the pain?…
